Support Freedom of Artistic Expression

Hundreds of artists perform in Israel every year and nearly all of them receive pressure to cancel. Artists are being inundated with petitions, open letters, and sometimes thousands of posts on social media, calling on them to boycott Israel. It is crucial at this time that artists hear from those who support artistic freedom and the power of the arts to build bridges.

Dear Artist,

We, the undersigned, wholeheartedly support your upcoming tour in Israel and your dedication to your fans across the globe.

We know you are hearing negative statements about Israel. We believe these messages are filled with distortions and untruths, which discourage meaningful discourse and block efforts to bring about peace.

Those of us who have actually been to Israel know it to be an amazing and vibrant country with a diverse population. It is the only country in the Middle East where women, Arabs, Muslims and Christians have the opportunity to live full lives, become socially engaged and participate in running the government.

We too wish for a peaceful resolution to the complicated Palestinian/Israeli situation and believe that art and artists are part of the solution. Music especially is a great tool — one that has often been used to build bridges, encourage dialogue and promote understanding between people. Cultural boycotts do the opposite, they drown out freedom and the voices of change. Your voice, your message, will touch hearts and minds in a region desperately looking for peace.

We therefore urge you to keep your tour date in Israel, the land Madonna calls “the energy center of the world.” Join the ranks of independent-minded artists who have performed in Israel recently, including One Republic, Robbie Williams, Backstreet Boys, Rihanna, Alanis Morissette, Alicia Keys, Macy Gray, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Black Eyed Peas, Dionne Warwick, Missy Elliot, Metallica, Linkin Park, Lady Gaga, Seal, Erykah Badu and many others.

Your fans in Israel are looking forward to seeing you and are counting on the power of your music to help bring hope and peace to the region! Thank you.
